Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – Release Date, Trailers, Gameplay, and News

Games

Bungie’s next expansion for Destiny 2 is called Shadowkeep and it takes place on the Moon, where Guardians will face off against the Hive once again. Shadowkeep is a “completely standalone” experience, meaning you won’t have to buy last year’s Forsaken expansion, the Annual Pass, or the base game to play it. That should definitely make things less confusing for late adopters, especially at only $35.

In a ViDoc, Bungie also revealed that there will be more of a psychological horror aspect to the expansion and that the experience will prey on Guardians’ fears. The Hive areas have always been some of the creepier locations in these games, but it sounds like Bungie is really pushing the terror aspect of the setting.

Shadowkeep is the first major expansion for Destiny 2 since Bungie’s split from Activision earlier this year. Bungie retained the rights to develop and publish new content for the franchise, taking Destiny‘s…destiny into its own hands. As such, the developer has announced a few other changes to the game, including a free-to-play version the experience called Destiny 2: New Light that will allow players to jump into the base game as well as all the Year 1 content, including the Curse of Osiris and Warmind expansions, for free.

A cross-save feature will also let players bring their character progress to any platform, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia (which means mobile devices, too). We certainly feel optimistic about what Bungie is doing with Destiny with complete creative control. Now they just need to add cross-play between platforms!
