Dell has released its new XPS 15 laptop, which was unveiled last month at Computex. The base model, running the 9th Generation Intel Core i5 processor with 8GB memory and 256GB SSD, will set you back $1,099.99, but Dell is also offering more souped-up versions at the price points of $1,549.99, $1,949.99, $2,099.99, and $2,649.99 for the best-kitted option.
The latter build sounds like an absolute beast, boasting the 9th Generation Intel Core i9 CPU, 32GB of memory, a 1TB SSD, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 GPU, which is a nice setup for gaming on the go. It also has a 15.6″ 4K UHD display and a thinner and lighter design. In fact, the laptop only weighs about four pounds. You can find full details and customization options here.
I attended a demo of Dell’s XPS line, as well as the G series and latest Alienware machines, at a press event in May and was really impressed by the high-resolution display and how light the laptop was. Personally, I prefer a lighter laptop that I can easily stick in my bag and go, but that can still handle whatever game I throw at it. The look of the XPS 15 is also perfect for an office setting, so this laptop seems made for working by day and playing by night.

If gaming is most important to you, Dell also has the G series and Alienware laptops. The comparable Dell G7 15 Gaming Laptop, designed as a more affordable gaming option, starts at $949.99, although you might want to upgrade to the $1,399.99 model, which comes with the ray-tracing technology of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR. Can you dole out $1,500-$5,000 for a gaming laptop? Then the new Alienware m15 might be for you, especially if you want a machine that’s VR-ready. I played around briefly with the m15 at the May press event and again was surprised by how light it was, with a weight starting at 4.7 pounds, which is pretty impressive for Alienware, which has long had a reputation for heavier, bulkier laptops.
