For those who missed our Twitter Watchalong Party, check out the hashtag #TomorrowParty and #SupermanMOT in the great vaults of the Twitterverse. Make sure you order your copy of Superman: Man Of Tomorrow first to avoid any spoilers and in the meantime, here are the questions we asked the brilliant Tim Sheridan…

How do even begin to approach writing Superman: Man Of Tomorrow?

Blank screen, keyboard, tons of coffee! Seriously – through every step, I thought about what I could bring to the movie that was my own experience. Superman fights for truth, so in my opinion that’s where all Superman stories should begin.

How did you first get into writing DC characters?

The great Jim Krieg discovered me toiling in obscurity and brought me in to work with him and Butch Lukic and our director Chris Palmer on an amazing show called Justice League Action. Happily, they’ve kept us around!

Who is your favourite DC character?

Don’t make me choose!!! I will say this: the first DC character I fell in love with was Batman… but only because I hadn’t met Supes yet. =) [also Booster Gold FOREVER].

Why did you decide to include Lobo in Superman: Man Of Tomorrow?

I decided nothing! Producer (and amazing talent) Butch Lukic came in on day one and said: “The Main Man is gonna be in this movie. Period.” Boy, was he right. He’s a great foil for Supes and Ryan Hurst is PERFECTION [as the voice of Lobo].

What character would you like to write for next?

You know, I asked producer Butch Lukic this question the first day I met him on Justice League Action and he said “Captain America.” I said: “That’s MARVEL, Butch.” And he said: “No, Captain Marvel is SHAZAM.” So… I guess my answer is Shazam?

What was the first comic book you ever read?

Good one! It was a reprint of Tales of Suspense #39! The origin of Iron Man (but my intro to superheroes was really through animation. Now here I am!).

Massive thank you to Tim Sheridan and everyone who joined in for the Superman: Man Of Tomorrow Watchalong Party, keep checking back here for announcements on our next event!

Superman: Man Of Tomorrow is released on digital on 24 August, and on DVD, Blu-ray and limited edition Blu-rau (with mini figure) on 7 September 2020.

Character Creation

Lobo’s character was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, first appearing in 1983 in Omega Men #3. In the special feature Lobo: A Natural Force of Chaos attached to the Blu-ray edition of new film Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Lobo is described as the “natural force of chaos in all of us”. His muscular appearance is said to have been inspired by WWE and WWF wrestlers, whilst also portraying him as a metal rocker. The name Lobo roughly translates to “he who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it” which totally represents his character!

The Last Czarnian & Badass Bounty Hunter

Lobo is the last Czarnian alien born on utopian planet Czarnia, after he brutally murdered every other member of his species. This fact alone tells you of Lobo’s extreme violence. Being the last of his kind is also something he has in common with Superman, who is the last of the Kryptionians.

Lobo is the best bounty hunter in the known universe and trust us he is the last being you would want to get into a fight with!

The Ride

Anyone who knows Lobo knows of his “space cycle” named the Spacehog and it’s a pretty sweet ride! This mode of transport totally fits Lobo’s metal, rock n roll lifestyle, baring a resemblance to a souped-up motorcycle with all the power and speed you could ask for.

What makes Lobo different

Lobo is unique because his character often goes where regular DC stories do not dare to go. He is a larger than life character, with extreme strength and excellent regenerative power rendering him immortal. Lobo can create weapons of mass destruction and has no impulse control… a dangerous combination! On top of the physical elements, Lobo has some hilarious quotes such as “I’ve got to take a big old space dump” in Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

Is he a good guy or a bad guy?

The confusing question is whether Lobo is good, bad or both. Over the years, he has fought on both sides, but it usually boils down to whoever is paying him the most or which side is offering the most action. This makes him the perfect anti-superhero.
