Resident Evil 3 Remake Developers Reveal Major Changes

Games

Resident Evil 3 producers Peter Fabiano and Masao Kawada spoke to Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera) about some of the changes they’ve made to the upcoming remakes.

First off, the pair indicates that there will be notable changes made in the Resident Evil 3 remake. While they didn’t break down everything that will be different in this upcoming game, they indicated that many more things will be swapped around and altered than what we saw in the Resident Evil 2 remake. Given how different that game felt, that could mean that the upcoming RE3 remake could feel like a very different game. They also shared a few notable alterations that largely focus on the title’s primary characters.

For instance, as you may have noticed in some of the early screenshots for the remake, Jill’s look has been slightly modified from what we saw in the PS version of the game. Much like Claire in Resident Evil 2, these changes were seemingly made to both adhere to more modern design standards and to give Jill a more “action-oriented” look (while still retaining some of her trademark visual elements). They’ve also revealed that they’ve modified the look of RE3 fan-favorite character Carlos to give him a more “mature” design, but it seems that this personality will also remain largely the same.

Gameplay-wise, RE3 will (unsurprisingly) utilize the third-person camera style that we saw in the Resident Evil 2 remake, but the two will not be carbon copies. For instance, it sounds like RE3 will emphasize action much more than the recent RE2 remake did, which makes a lot of sense when you consider that the original version of the title also featured more action than the previous games in the series.

It also sounds like Capcom has completed the master ROM of the title, which seems to mean that the title is about 90% complete. The quick work on this title allowed Capcom to announce the game a little closer to its eventual release date and surprise fans.

We’re quite excited about Resident Evil 3 and its new asymmetrical multiplayer mode. It might not be the most beloved game in the series, but it arguably laid the groundwork for what would eventually come and is a damn good RE title in its own right
