The Game Awards 2019 will kick off a special event known as The Game Festival that allows gamers across the globe to play some sneak peeks at upcoming titles.
“The Game Festival is a first-of-its-kind digital consumer event that brings the magic of hands-on gameplay demos to fans around the world,” reads a press release confirming the upcoming event. “For 2019, The Game Festival will launch a digital pilot program on Steam. The Game Festival will feature more than a dozen first-look game demos, available to play for a limited 48-hour window before they are removed from Steam.”
Basically, the start of the Game Awards 2019 festivities on Thursday, December 12 will also mark the start of your chance to play a selection of upcoming games via Steam. The idea is that it will digitally recreate the experience of attending a game festival and getting to play the games there.
Thus far, some of the games that you’ll be able to play include System Shock, Moving Out, CARRION, and The Drifter. Granted, it’s not exactly a selection of the most high-profile games on the upcoming release schedule, but it does offer you the chance to access some exciting upcoming PC titles ahead of their release. To participate, you just need to download the game’s demo once it hits Steam sometime in the near future. These demos will only be available for a limited time (48 hours after their debut), so be sure to act quickly.

Moves like this continue to point towards a future where the traditional industry shows and the opportunities they offer begin to fade away. More and more major companies are leaving E3, and we’ve already seen Sony and Nintendo rely more and more on livestreams in order to reveal their upcoming content.
