Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp’s The Green Lantern wraps up in October with issue 12, and DC just announced what’s coming next: the destruction of the entire Green Lantern Corps. No, scratch that: the complete erasure of the Green Lantern Corps from existence.
Following up on the events of The Green Lantern #12, Morrison and new art partner Xermanico will launch Green Lantern: Blackstars in November. The new series starts in a world with no Green Lanterns on patrol, no power rings in existence, and no GLC to protect the universe. Instead, the Blackstars, the criminals who have been in the background of the series this far, are the dominant force in the universe.

Who are the Blackstars? What are they? Answers will be revealed as the unstoppable Blackstars set their sights on the demons of Ysmault, Mongul…and a tiny, backwater planet called Earth in Green Lantern: Blackstars #1. Paving the way for more exciting Green Lantern adventures in 2020, a dangerous new chapter of the Green Lantern mythology starts on November 6th.
“Oa is the skeleton-paved haunt of vengeful demons,” Morrison says about the new book in a statement. “And the Blackstars—a sinister cult of universal peace and harmony, involving surrender to the will of the insidious and/or possibly illuminated Controller Mu—are in the process of subjugating the universe to their creed.”

Hal was sent undercover earlier in the current series to try and infiltrate the Blackstars and gather more information on their leaders: Countess Belzebeth of Vorr, the Vampire Queen of the Blackstars, and Controller Mu, the new cosmic force behind the evil group. Mu has been gathering objects of power from around space, using them to build Blackstar suits (and definitely not an antimatter Miracle Machine ha ha no way, that’s just baseless speculation ha ha).
“Jordan’s one of the Blackstars’ primary operatives,” continues Morrison. “He’s central, although the Cosmic Vampire Countess Belzebeth vies with him for control of the narrative in Blackstars. Hal Jordan is the kind of man who will excel in any situation, so naturally he’s an elite Blackstar in this altered-continuity.”

Xermanico’s most recent work has been on G. Willow Wilson’s terrifically fun Wonder Woman, but he has some Hal Jordan under his belt, drawing a Green Lantern storyline in the surprisingly good Injustice 2 comic. He follows Sharp, whose work prior to The Green Lantern was also meticulously detailed Wonder Woman and The Brave and the Bold. His art style changed substantially on The Green Lantern, becoming much looser and extremely European and underground indie comix. It’s unlike anything on the stands right now and a ton of fun to take home every week.
