The Crown Season 3 Cast
Emerald Fennell has joined the cast of The Crown Season 3. She will play Camilla Parker Bowles, who, of course, would become the wife of Prince Charles.
Yet, with The Crown Season 3 taking place in the 1970s, Fennell’s onscreen character, will showcase the early relationship between Camilla and Charles (Josh O’ Connor), several years before their connection would be defined by scandal in the eyes of the public in the 1990s, when their affair become tabloid fodder. As Fennell expresses in a statement:
“I’m absolutely over the moon, and completely terrified, to be joining so many hugely talented people on The Crown. I absolutely love Camilla, and am very grateful that my teenage years have well prepared me for playing a chain-smoking serial snogger with a pudding bowl hair cut.”
Fennell, a Hammersmith-London-born actress, is known for her TV run on the BBC’s Call the Midwife. She’s banked an appearance on another royal series on ITV/Masterpiece’s Victoria and appeared in high-profile films such as Pan and The Danish Girl.
Fennell joins the following recent additions to The Crown Season 3’s time-jumped cast:
Josh O’Connor (Ripper Street, Peaky Blinders) will play the young adult version of Prince Charles, set for the role for two seasons. As O’Connor expresses of the opportunity in a statement, “Seasons 3 and 4 will follow some of the most turbulent events in the Prince of Wales’s life and our national story and I’m excited to be bringing to life the man in the midst of it all. I’m very aware it’s a formidably talented family to be joining, but reliably informed I have the ears for the part and will fit right in.” O’Connor inherits the role from young Billy Jenkins and Julian Baring.
Marion Bailey (Allied, Mr. Turner) will play the Queen Mother. As Bailey also lauds, “Wonderful to be joining The Crown. It’s a brilliant show and we have a tough act to follow but what a gift to be playing the fascinating and greatly loved Queen Mother. Thrilled to be on board and working with such a top notch team.” Bailey inherits the role from Victoria Hamilton.
Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter) will be replacing Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. Here’s a pic of the actress in action…
The fantastic Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, The Night Manager) is taking over the role of Elizabeth from Claire Foy. We’ve got our first look at Colman in the role, courtesy of The Crown‘s official Twitter account.
Honcho Ted Sarandos previously revealed a plan to churn out six seasons of the show in all, and has now made it know that he plans to use another actress for the final two seasons, choosing not to use makeup effects to turn Colman into the face we’ve become more familiar with in current years.
“I’m so thrilled to be part of The Crown. I was utterly gripped watching it,” Colman said in a statement. “I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius—she’s an incredibly hard act to follow. I’m basically going to re-watch every episode and copy her.”
Foy also responded to the news with some kind words. “I just love her, I admire her so much and the idea that we sort of will be doing the same job but not actually working together is just enough – I’m honoured by that.”
Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones, Outlander) will be the man to replace Matt Smith as Prince Philip for The Crown Seasons 3 and 4.
They are also joined by Season 3’s big name draw, Helena Bonham Carter. Bonham is on board role of Margaret, tagging in for Vanessa Kirby.
