Sega Genesis Mini Retro Console: Release Date, Games, Price, and More

Sega has announced that the Sega Genesis Mini is launching this autumn, promising to pack “40 legendary games” into a smaller version of the iconic home console. As one of the major platforms of the video game industry’s golden age, it’s about time Sega officially brought back the console.

This tiny version of the Genesis was initially announced on the official Sega website, and it has since been added to Amazon, with the retail giant already accepting pre-orders. (You can click here if you want to place such an order.)

As for which classic titles will make up the 42 games on the device, the full lineup hasn’t been revealed yet, but Sega has confirmed that the following offerings will be included:

Sega Genesis Mini Price

The price point for the device is listed as $79.99 on Amazon, and the product listing promises a plug-and-play experience with two controllers included. There’s no surprise there, of course, as it sounds like the Sega Genesis Mini will be pretty similar to the NES Mini, SNES Mini, and PlayStation Classic.

One thing that is sure to please owners of an original Genesis is the design at play here: both the packaging (pictured atop this page) and the console itself (pictured below) are fairly faithful recreations of the classics they’re based on…

The games will be included as digital files, though, so we’d assume that the cartridge-shaped gap in the middle of the console is just for show.
