The Simpsons, the lovable, loathable, yellow-skinned, eight-fingered nuclear family who dominate my Sunday nights, paid another two years on their Evergreen Terrace property mortage. Lisa went radical in recent seasons, Bart’s always been radical and Homer still forgets to check the safety gauges on the radicals at the nuclear plant. The family has grown and yet, we are still waiting for Maggie to talk. The Simpsons season 31 will premiere on Fox this fall.
The Simpsons will anchor Sunday nights during their 2019-2020 season. They will be followed by new series Bless the Harts, which will lead in to the returning comedies Bob’s Burgers and Seth Macfarlane’s Family Guy.
Fox picked up The Simpsons Season 31 and 32 in February. By the end of Season 32, the series will have produced a total of 713 episodes. The Simpsons became the longest-running primetime scripted show in television history when it blew away Gunsmoke’s record during its 29th season. Gunsmoke still logs more TV hours, because it was an hour long show, however.
When The Simpsons started off, in April 1987, they were a series of animated shorts which ran in between skits on The Tracey Ullman Show. Since becoming its own series in December 1989, The Simpsons has gone on to win 33 Emmy Awards, its 2007 feature-length film, Simpsons Movie, was nominated for an Academy Award and it was the first animated series to win a Peabody Award.
