Cyberpunk 2077 Developers Deny Currently Developing Multiple Cyberpunk Games

Games

In a statement released to PC Gamer and other outlets, developer CD Projekt Red says they’re not currently working on multiple Cyberpunk projects.

“We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077,” said a CD Projekt rep. “These include CD Projekt Red Warsaw and Kraków, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wrocław studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D…A separate, dedicated team at the Warsaw studio is handling the development of Gwent. The final team is Spokko, which is currently working on a yet unannounced mobile project.”

The confusion stems from an interview with Bankier (as translated by Google), in which CD Projekt Red seemingly confirmed that the studio is working on three games related to the Cyberpunk franchise.

“We’re working on three Cyberpunk things – over the main game and over two more. These are three teams,” said CD Projekt Red CEO and President, Adam Kiciński. “So we have five working teams, three working on Cyberpunk.”

At this time, it seems that the confusion can be traced back to a mistranslation of the exact quote. However, Polygon reached out to Cyberpunk who would not confirm or deny their that they intend to develop future games in the Cyberpunk franchise.

We wouldn’t be surprised to learn that CD Projekt Red is sticking with the Cyberpunk universe, though. They managed to get quite a bit out of mileage out of The Witcher series and never indicated that Cyberpunk 2077 was going to be a one-and-done proposition.

While we’re not sure if Keanu Reeves is going to be on-board for all future Cyberpunk projects, we fully expect to be excited for future Cyberpunk projects given just how great Cyberpunk 2077 has looked so far
