AEW Fyter Fest: Card, Date, Matches, and How to Watch

TV

As an all-new wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling has been hitting all the right notes right out the gate. Their prototype show All In made waves, but not nearly as much as their first real show AEW Double or Nothing. The event was both a critical and financial success. They’re a few months away from starting their weekly series on TNT. Their big August event All Out sold out in about fifteen minutes.

They’re going to attempt to keep that momentum going with AEW Fyter Fest. The gag story behind the show is that the Young Bucks had fellow AEW wrestler/executive Kenny Omega watch one of the Fyre Fest documentaries. Only halfway into the doc, Omega was blown away by the very concept of Fyre Fest and became inspired to do a wrestling-based version of it. As he jumped into action, the Bucks frantically yelled at him to finish the documentary, for the love of God!

The show will be part of Community Effort Orlando’s weekend of fighting game tournaments.

WHEN IS AEW FYTER FEST?

The show will take place on June 29 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. CEO itself is from June 28-30. The main show is at 8pm, though there will be a pre-show called The Buy In at 7pm.

HOW TO WATCH AEW FYTER FEST?

Bleacher Report’s B/R Live streaming service will be showing Fyter Fest FREE. Not bad at all, considering how many people were iffy about Double or Nothing’s $50 price tag. Elsewhere, you can watch it on FiteTV for about $9.99 depending on the country.

AEW FYTER FEST MATCHES

THE YOUNG BUCKS AND KENNY OMEGA VS. THE LUCHA BROS AND LAREDO KID

Originally, the latter match was supposed to be Lucha Bros and PAC, but due to some visa issues, PAC is out of the picture for now.

At All In, Kenny Omega took on Pentagon Jr. in what was considered at the time a dream match. Omega came out the winner. Later that night, the main event was a six-man tag where the team of the Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi defeated Fenix, Bandido, and Rey Mysterio.

During one of the initial press conferences about AEW, new signees the Lucha Bros attacked the Young Bucks and left them unconscious. The Young Bucks got their revenge by going to AAA and winning the tag belts off of Pentagon Jr. and Fenix. This led to a rematch at Double or Nothing where the Bucks once again won. Weeks later, they faced off in AAA and the Lucha Bros. won their titles back.

Hours later, the Lucha Bros. announced that their mystery partner would be none other than Laredo Kid, accompanied by footage of Laredo and his sweet moves.

JON MOXLEY VS. JOEY JANELA

At the end of Double or Nothing, the former Dean Ambrose appeared and laid out Chris Jericho, the referee, and Kenny Omega before ending the show posing on a stack of giant poker chips. Moxley was considered a major get for AEW, especially considering how WWE went out of their way to give his leave of the company so much fanfare. Backstage that night, he cut a promo about there being a paradigm shift in the business and that everyone’s going to need to get out of his way.

As Moxley finished his promo, “Bad Boy” Joey Janela appeared in the room, smiling and lighting up a cigarette. Moxley wordlessly stole the cigarette, disrespected Janela, and walked out of the room. Since then, these two violent loudmouths have had their own passionate speeches about how they were going to tear each other apart.

CODY VS. DARBY ALLIN

There’s really no story currently going on with this one. Cody Rhodes just came off of a very emotional victory over his brother Dustin Rhodes at Double or Nothing. They have a future tag match against the Young Bucks, but that doesn’t factor into Fyter Fest.

Darby Allin is one of the latest acquisitions to the AEW roster. In an episode of Cody’s Nightmare Family YouTube series, Allin released a video about his facepaint, history as a skateboarder, reckless wrestling style, and how he has little trust for the human race after his uncle died from drunk driving in an accident that nearly killed Darby. It’s a sweet-ass promo.

He also had a match against Moxley recently in Northeast Wrestling where he kicked ass for a bit despite having his arms tied behind his back. It was nifty.

ADAM “HANGMAN” PAGE VS. JUNGLE BOY VS. JIMMY HAVOC VS. MJF

Double or Nothing featured a Casino Battle Royale where the winner would be entered into a match to decide the first AEW Heavyweight Champion by facing the winner of Omega vs. Jericho. Adam Page made a surprise appearance as the final entrant and won despite a bum knee. His final elimination was MJF, who tried to lay low outside the ring while everyone else eliminated each other.

Later that night, Bret Hart appeared to show off the championship belt for the first time. Page was called out to be part of this momentous occasion, but MJF followed and started running down Page and Hart. His lack of respect brought out Jungle Boy and Jimmy Havoc to confront him. Those two and Page attacked MJF and beat him through the crowd.

Angry about the situation weeks later, Page called up Nick Jackson to demand a match against MJF. Due to a bad connection, Jackson believed Page wanted a match against Jungle Boy. The match was announced and Page angrily called back, claiming that he wanted to face MJF. Once again, the connection wasn’t so good and Jackson believed he wanted a match against Jimmy Havoc. After THAT match was announced, Page called up once again to make it perfectly clear that he wanted to fight MJF. Since Jackson already booked Jungle Boy and Havoc, he decided not to cancel on them and just made it a four-way match.

MICHAEL NAKAZAWA VS. ALEX JEBAILEY

Hardcore Match

Fyter Fest isn’t the first time CEO has hosted a wrestling event. Last year had New Japan Pro Wrestling partnering up with them and that led to a segment where Michael Nakazawa showed up, talked down on American wrestling and American gamers, and held an open challenge. One young unknown stepped up, but got jumped by Nakazawa and discarded like mere trash.

Alex Jebailey, the organizer of the event, appeared. Due to a bum leg, he was in a wheelchair and entered the ring with crutches. Nakazawa kicked a crutch away, causing Jebailey to fall. He demanded the bell ring and the match begin. Due to the ref being taken out of the match for a moment, Jebailey was able to get the better of Nakazawa via using the crutch as a weapon and then hitting an Attitude Adjustment.

It’s been a year and the two will get their rematch. Jebailey’s leg is in better shape, but using a crutch is still very much in the cards as anything goes.

YUKA SAKAZAKI VS. RIHO VS. NYLA ROSE

Double or Nothing featured two women’s matches. One was a four-way featuring Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, Kylie Rae, and a surprise appearance by Awesome Kong. The other was a joshi showcase of three Japanese students (Hikaru Shida, Riho, and Ryo Mizunami) defeating their mentors (Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, and Emi Sakura). Now they’re going to be doing a little mixing and matching. Take a member of each joshi team, throw in Nyla Rose, and watch the awesome happen.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS VS. CIMA

SoCal Uncensored took a trip to China to wrestle some OWE students. This led to a six-man tag at Double or Nothing where SoCal Uncensored took on Strong Hearts, the team of Cima, T-Hawk, and El Lindaman. Once again, SoCal Uncensored won.

Daniels received a call from Cima, asking for a singles match. Blown away by this challenge, Daniels had a one-side conversation with his dog about it and ultimately decided to accept the challenge. Daniels has been so focused on multi-man matches lately that he wants to show that he has what it takes to succeed on his own and Cima is the perfect opponent to test his mettle.

BEST FRIENDS VS. SOCAL UNCENSORED VS. PRIVATE PARTY

Winners advance to All Out for an opportunity at a first round bye in the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament

As a way to differentiate themselves from the competition in Connecticut, AEW wants to add a lot of focus on their tag team division and has a huge pool of talent to play with. A tag tournament will be starting up soon to crown inaugural champions, seemingly around the time their TV deal kicks in. I have to imagine it’s going to be a situation that plays out in one night or several shows bunched together because they’re treating a bye like gold here.

This match at Fyter Fest will feature Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta, who won their match at Double or Nothing against Angelico and Jack Evans), Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian from SoCal Uncensored (who won their Double or Nothing six-man tag against Strong Hearts), and Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen as Private Party, who only got to appear at Double or Nothing’s battle royal. I have to imagine that Fight for the Fallen, AEW’s next big show, will feature another three-way tag match and the two winning teams will face off at All Out for the precious tournament bye.
