It’s winter and with it brings long, dark nights, possible starvation and a whole lot of troubles for the girls of the stranded soccer team in the second season of Yellowjackets.
The traumas the team have dealt with since their plane crashed while on their way to a tournament are taking their toll. Young Shauna is not coping well with Jackie’s death and has taken to spending hours talking with her dead friend’s corpse, Travis is forcing teen Natalie to traverse the frozen landscape to look for Javi instead of hunting, and Taissa’s night terrors are getting worse.
In the present day, Taissa’s night terrors have returned and the subsequent insomnia is causing a blur between reality and fantasy for the politician. Meanwhile, Misty is determined to find out what happened to Natalie, Shauna is dealing with the aftermath of stabbing her lover and we have a new adult character in the shape of Lottie (Simone Kessell).
Speaking of Lottie, back in the wilderness, the young teen’s penchant for the mystical is starting to rub off on her fellow team-mates and as casual superstition starts to gain more gravitas, soon the team are relying more on other-worldly powers rather than their own.
The first series of Yellowjackets hit with a bang, unashamedly portraying girls and women in all their unabashed complexities against a thriller backdrop with a mystery as to what happened to the team while they were stranded in the wilderness. The first series also gave us absolutely no answers whatsoever about what happened out there, even when following the stories of the now-adult survivors.
What’s clear from the first two episodes of Yellowjackets Season Two is that not only is the show going in a much darker – perhaps supernatural? – direction, but that we will be asking far more questions before any of them are answered.
Season two of Yellowjackets will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on March 24th.
