Glasgow Film Festival Goes Online!

Due to the lockdown restrictions affecting most of Scotland, and the rest of the UK, it has been announced that the Glasgow Film Festival 2021 (GFF21) will now take place online only, on the festival dates: 24 February to 7 March.

“While we are very disappointed not to be screening this year’s Glasgow Film Festival in cinemas, the hybrid nature of GFF21 means we are still able to offer the majority of the premieres originally included in the programme for people to watch at home,” Allison Gardner, CEO of Glasgow Film and Co-Director of GFF. “Audiences can look forward to the same high quality of choice as they’d normally expect from GFF, as well as the opportunity to see the best new, independent films from Scotland and around the world.”

GFF21 had been planned as a hybrid festival, screening films in Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) and on its streaming site, Glasgow Film At Home as well as at 23 partner cinemas across the UK. Unfortunately, as cinemas can only open in areas under Covid Restriction Level/Tier 2, the festival does do not anticipate this happening by 24 February when GFF21 begins.

However, plans to show in-cinema screenings of selected titles will be reviewed by GFF’s directors once Covid-19 restrictions allow cinemas to re-open.

GFF21’s programme of online premieres will be announced on 14 January and tickets for these titles will go on sale on 18 January.
