Helping Crisis on Infinite Earths live up to its promise of being ‘the biggest Arrowverse event yet’, UK broadcasters cleverly waited until there was an actual crisis on Earth to air it. Talk about a crossover.
After going out in the US late last year, the five-part special finally arrived in the UK this spring, but with a catch. As E4 and not Sky picked up the rights to Batwoman, and only started airing the show at the end of March, the crossover went out in the UK missing an episode. ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Two’ (aka Batwoman episode nine) did not air as part of the event.
Nor did it air in between Batwoman episodes eight and ten, as expected. Here in the UK, episode 10 ‘How Queer Everything is Today!‘ aired on May 24th, listed as episode nine.
Apparently the decision was made to avoid confusing fans who aren’t also up-to-date with the other Arrowverse shows with an interruption to the ongoing Batwoman story arc. Speaking to SFX Magazine, Channel 4 explained its thinking:
The missing Crisis episode then, won’t arrive in the UK until the end of the run of 20 episodes, which – by our back-of-an-envelope calculations – puts it at Sunday the 9th of August, other interruptions notwithstanding.
Any fans who’ve steadfastly waited for the legitimate arrival of the complete set to watch the crossover still have months to go. Unless, that is, they want to buy the DVD including all five episode, available now from Amazon at £6.99.
The other four parts aired sequentially on Sky One and NOW TV, starting with Supergirl’s part one on Monday March 30th, followed by The Flash’s part three on Tuesday March 31st, then Arrow’s part four on Wednesday April 1st, and finally Legends of Tomorrow’s part five on Thursday April 2nd .
Black Lightning season three is also now available on Netflix UK, though doesn’t have an official instalment in the Crisis crossover.
