Fast & Furious 9

The first Fast & Furious 9 trailer was made available on the Friday before the Super Bowl. And thank goodness it was as there is a lot to process here. There is the usual Fast tomfoolery of course with car (and stealth jet) chases and John Cena joining the cast as Dom’s brother. But more importantly there is the hallowed return of Han!

Sonic the Hedgehog

What do you think cost more: the belated CGI changes that Paramount made to its beloved hedgehog to make him look less freakish or the placement of this Super Bowl ad? Neither could have been cheap. But it looks like they may have at least got their money’s worth on this one with some famous athletes assuring us that it’s all about the rings before revealing some new footage.

The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run

It’s always nice when Super Bowl trailers call out just how much money is being spent on them within the trailer itself. The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run teaser makes it clear that each and every of its 30 seconds must count and then goes a long way towards making sure they do. Though they could have just spent the whole 30 seconds on Tumbleweed Keanu Reeves.

Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty season 4 aired the first half of its episodes last year and is set to air the rest at some point this year. The Invisible Man

Blumhouse’s remake of The Invisible Man takes a decidedly different approach, and it’s not that far off, touting a Feb. 28 opening. Here’s the official synopsis of the film, courtesy of Universal:

“What you can’t see can hurt you. Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss (Us, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale) stars in a terrifying modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character. Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, NBC’s The InBetween), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, HBO’s Euphoria).

But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.”
