Killing Eve Season 4 Lands Early Order from BBC America

Killing Eve Season 4 is officially happening!

Oh, don’t worry, you didn’t miss Season 3. That’s still set to premiere on BBC America sometime this spring. However, the irreverently twisted crime series – a cross-continental offering that airs on BBC America and AMC in the U.S. – has nevertheless scored a preemptive fourth season renewal, buttressed by the supreme confidence of the network, and the array of mainstream accolades accrued last year, notably an “Outstanding Lead Actress” Primetime Emmy win for co-star Jodie Comer (highlighting the other eight nominations), as well as a “Best Actress in a Television Series” Golden Globe win for co-star Sandra Oh.

With the announcement of Killing Eve Season 4 comes confirmation that the series will continue with what has become a tradition in passing off showrunner reins to a new female lead writer. Indeed, a yet-to-be appointed female writer will step into the lead writer role for the fourth frame, continuing a line that started with Fleabag star/creator (and current toast of the industry,) Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who created the series – based on the Codename: Villanelle novels by Luke Jennings – and served as writer/executive producer for 2018’s Season 1. That job was then handed to actress/burgeoning writer Emerald Fennell for 2019’s Season 2, after which we will see the series in the hands of Fear the Walking Dead’s Suzanne Heathcote for 2020’s Season 3.

As Sarah Barnett, President, AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, lauds in a statement:

“How could we not have massive confidence in Killing Eve? It has won big in every major award show and is the highest growing show on U.S. television for six years. The reason for this series’ emphatic embrace is the brilliant women who breathed it into being: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell, Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Fiona Shaw and its fairy godmother, executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle. Season 3 lead writer Suzanne Heathcote takes Eve, Villanelle and Carolyn to places more thrilling, twisted and surprising than ever. Our addicted fans will not be disappointed.”

As Executive Producer Sally Woodward Gentle states:

“I am beyond thrilled that we can continue our extraordinary journey. It is [a] testament to everyone involved that we have been picked up so early – the magnificent actors, writers, directors and production team.  We are extremely lucky to work with such fierce and dedicated people.”

Of course, there’s no substantive details to divulge for Killing Eve Season 4, seeing as Season 3 has months until it makes air this spring (there isn’t even a solid release date to cite). However, the end of Season 2 saw a major development in the cat-and-mouse/quasi-romantic dynamic between embattled MI5 agent Eve Polastri (Oh) and international assassin Villanelle (Comer), with Villanelle who, in many ways is a child-like figure, coming a to a realization about said dynamic that may have proven deadly for Eve, leading to a bloody cliffhanger moment for Season 3.

Killing Eve Season 4 doesn’t have a release date, but, given precedence, it will likely arrive sometime around spring of 2021.
