The Stranger: Dane DeHaan and Maika Monroe Cast in New Series

TV

Dane DeHaan (Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets) is planning to extend his stay on TV for a while (well, streaming) as he’ll be following up his forthcoming series ZeroZeroZero, which debuted last month at the Venice Film Festival to a positive reception, with another show for streamer Quibi.

DeHaan will star opposite Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) in The Stranger, which will apparently center on “an unassuming young rideshare driver (Maika Monroe – It Follows, The Guest) who is thrown into her worst nightmare when a mysterious Hollywood Hills passenger enters her car. Her terrifying ride with the stranger unfolds over 12 hours as she navigates the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles in a chilling game of cat and mouse” according to Deadline.

Veena Sud, the woman behind the American version of The Killing (Forbrydelsen) will write and direct The Stranger.

Jeffrey Katzenberg’s streaming service is set to launch in April 2020, boasting a slate of high-quality “snackable” shows that each have episodes with 10-minute-ish running times. Quibi sounds slightly too bonkers to work, but that’s also a pretty good reason why it just might – instead of setting aside a whole day to binge a new series, what if you could get the whole thing done in maybe an hour or so?

Also in the works at Quibi are a horror series from Steven Spielberg called After Dark, a survival reality show where Zac Efron and his brother are sent to remote parts of the world, and a kinda Judge Judy-esque comedy project for Chrissy Teigen, where she presides over small claims cases.
