This Walking Dead article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for both the show and the comics.
The Whisperers have arrived on The Walking Dead and have already claimed their first victims. Killing a major character in their very first episode, things only got bloodier from there, as more fell to the crazed cult of zombie-flesh-wearing killers by season’s end. Certainly, few will forget the show’s very own version of the Red Wedding any time soon.
It probably won’t be their last casualty either, not if the Whisperers’ ruthless leader, Alpha, has anything to say about it. In fact, season 10 could see another war break out between a militia formed by the remaining communities and the Whisperers, one that will cut a few more lives short.
But for now, many of your favorite characters are still safe. Will they remain that way in season 10? Only time will tell, although it’s probably best you don’t get attached to anyone.

For your reading pleasure, we’ve made our predictions for who might die and who might survive season 10:
STILL WALKING
Alpha (Samantha Morton)
Prediction: Dies
Most villains don’t get two seasons to terrorize the good guys on this show — unless your name is Negan. But there’s something less than human about Alpha that makes any chance for rehabilitation very unlikely. After putting all those heads on pikes at the end of season 9, the leader of the Whisperers is probably a dead woman walking.

Beta (Ryan Hurst)
Prediction: Dies
Alpha’s second-in-command won’t fair much better than his beloved leader. Beta got a taste of what it’s like to go head-to-head against Daryl Dixon and it’s likely we’ll see rematch in season 10 that won’t end in the hulking giant’s favor.
Lydia (Cassady McClincy)
Prediction: Lives
Season 9 made former Whisperer Lydia one of its main focuses. As the daughter of Alpha, she has a connection of both sides of the conflict, a point of tension The Walking Dead will probably explore in further detail in season 10. Cassady McClincy is also a rising star on this show, so it’d be pretty surprising if she got the ax this year.

Magna (Nadia Hilker)
Prediction: Lives
Magna is one of the new characters who was brought in to freshen up the show in season 9. With Danai Gurira set to exit this season, Nadia Hilker might be ready to shine as The Walking Dead‘s new badass with a blade.
Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura)
Prediction: Lives
Yumiko didn’t really get much time to shine last season after her initial introduction, it’d be a shame to lose her so soon. We’re not sure where the show might go with her, but we hope it’s not to the grave.
Luke (Dan Fogler)
Prediction: Dies
We thought he’d die last year, and we’re sticking to that prediction for season 10. Luke holds on to relics of the past, and seems a bit too civilized for the new world to survive it for much longer. We think he’ll be one of the casualties of the Whisperer War.

Connie (Lauren Ridloff)
Prediction: Lives
Connie is one of the most interesting characters to join the show to date. Being deaf, she adds a whole new perspective to The Walking Dead as well as a different kind of tension: she can’t hear walkers sneaking up on her. Yet, she’s survived it all, in no small part due to her big heart. We hope to see much more of her this season.
Kelly (Angel Theory)
Prediction: Lives
Sisters Kelly and Connie make a great zombie- and Whisperer-killing duo and it’d be a shame to lose that this season. While her death would be tragic for Connie and would force the older sister to adapt to a new status quo, we think the show is better off with this duo than without.
Alden (Callan McAuliffe)
Prediction: Dies
Alden has gone from Savior to a central role in the leadership of the Hilltop. That said, prime figures at the Hilltop haven’t been doing so well in the past year. With Jesus, Enid, and Tara all gone, Alden may very well be next on the Whisperers’ list.

Siddiq (Avi Nash)
Prediction: Lives
Siddiq has some unfinished business with Alpha, who kidnapped him and forced him to watch his friends get brutally murdered in the show’s version of the Red Wedding. When the time comes for Alpha to get what’s coming to her, Siddiq will be there
King Ezekiel (Khary Payton)
Prediction: Dies
Ezekiel dodged his comic book death last season by a hair, but we don’t think he’ll be as lucky this season. Without a son, without Carol, and without a Kingdom, there’s not much going for Ezekiel at this point. He’s lost everything, and it’s likely he’ll make one last stand against the Whisperers before he meets his end. A glorious death for our King.
Jerry (Cooper Andrews)
Prediction: Lives
First introduced as a background character, Jerry will get more of the spotlight in season 10, as Cooper Andrews moves up to series regular. This fan-favorite character has been loyal to the King since his first appearance, and Kingdom or no Kingdom, we’re sure he’s still by Ezekiel’s side. If anything happens to our lovable zombie-killing machine, we riot.

Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam)
Prediction: Dies
Gabriel has some a long way since his first appearance in season 5, from cowardly priest to leader of an entire community of survivors. He plays an important role in Alexandria, which makes him the perfect target for Alpha and the Whisperers. What better way to destabilize Alexandria than by cutting its head off?
Aaron (Ross Marquand)
Prediction: Dies
Aaron hasn’t had the best of years in the aftermath of the war with the Saviors. After losing his partner, his best friend, and an arm, Aaron doesn’t have much left to give, which is why he’ll probably take the fight to Alpha and sacrifice himself in the final battle.
Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos)
Prediction: Lives
Rosita was spared last season, even though her comic book counterpart’s head was on one of those pikes. The show clearly wasn’t ready to let go of the character, and neither are we. Now a mother and back in fighting shape, Rosita is one of the most skilled soldiers Alexandria has. They’ll need her in the war to come.

Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt)
Prediction: Lives
Face it, losers, Eugene is indestructible. And now that he’s manning the radio that will likely lead to the show’s next big storyline (probably the one involving the return of Rick Grimes), he’ll probably be one of the characters to bridge the gap between season 10 and the next.
Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming)
Prediction: Lives
Judith Grimes is the greatest thing to happen in the history of The Walking Dead and no harm better come to her. She is the hero this show deserves. Expect to see her take down a few Whisperers and pal around with Negan a bit more in season 10.
RJ (Antony Azor)
Prediction: Lives
This show isn’t going to kill off the child of Rick and Michonne. Might he get kidnapped by Alpha or something to draw Michonne out into a confrontation? Maybe.

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)
Prediction: Lives
The fun’s only just beginning for Negan, who survived all the way to the end of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s comic book series. He plays a big role during the Whisperer War and we suspect Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play a similar part on the show.
Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride)
Prediction: Lives
Carol has fought so hard and survived it all. When the time comes to kill Alpha, it’ll be Carol to deliver the final blow. And we’ll clap and cheer as our Queen wins the day once more.
Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus)
Prediction: Lives
Lol, do you even need to ask?
Michonne (Danai Gurira)
Prediction: Lives
While this is Gurira’s final season on the show, don’t expect her to die in the process. Like Andrew Lincoln before her, Gurira is likely moving on to the upcoming Walking Dead movie. Expect Season 10 to set up a big, feature-length Rick and Michonne reunion.
