Marvel and Star Wars fans should be thrilled that Disney is launching their own streaming service. The first Star Wars live action TV series, The Mandalorian, arrives in November, with a movie-worthy budget and a murderer’s row of directors. Expect Marvel to follow suit shortly with a parade of six to eight-episode limited series, all focusing on big screen stars reprising their Avengers roles in the wake of Avengers: Endgame.

Variety reported that Malcolm Spellman (Empire) has been tapped to write The Falcon and The Winter Soldier for the Disney streaming service. Joining him on writing duties will be John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, according to The WrapDeadline reports that Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct all six episodes of the series.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is just one of many Marvel shows coming to Disney+, including Loki, WandaVision (focusing on Vision and the Scarlet Witch), and Hawkeye

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Cast

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will officially reprise their roles as Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. No other casting has been announced yet but at least the two crucial ones are all set.

According to a Deadline report, some other familiar MCU faces will be joining The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Daniel Bruhl and Emily VanCamp will both be joining the cast. If those names sound familiar it’s because they both played roles in Captain America: Civil War.

Bruhl played Helmut Zemo, a Sokovian citizen turned terrorist mastermind who engineered the rift between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Emily VanCamp played Sharon Carter, SHIELD agent and grandniece of Peggy Carter. Steve Rogers has kissed both, the sick freak.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Story

What does this mean for Captain America? Well, if you saw the end of Avengers: Endgame, you know that Steve Rogers has lived on, but passed the shield to Sam Wilson, who will be the new Captain America. Bucky approved, but Sam definitely seemed to have some reservations about taking on the shield and all it represents. Don’t be surprised if this series is about the pair coming to terms with a world where Steve Rogers has to play a very different role, and with Sam coming to terms with the enormity of his responsibility.

Per Deadline, Sam accepting the shield from Steve will factor into the series but the studio declined to say how so.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Release Date

Disney+ is confirmed to launch on November 12. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier probably won’t be ready for launch, as Disney confirmed that The Mandalorian will be available at launch but didn’t have anything to say about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s release date. Instead, expect this show to arrive around 2020. We’ll update this as soon as we have confirmation. The series is confirmed to have six episodes.
