Fun is for suckers. Bad attitude keeps the party going. And going. Netflix renewed its time-loop comedy Russian Doll for season 2, according to Deadline. The repeat of Natasha Lyonne’s semi-autobiographical take on the Groundhog Day will consist of eight episodes, Lyonne and Netflix vice president of original content  Cindy Holland announced at Recode’s 2019 Code Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“Same show, just weirder,” Lyonne confirmed at the conference.

Russian Dolls was co-created by Lyonne, who stars in every episode and directs, Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler. The series follows Nadia Nadia Vulvokov, played by  Lyonne, a coder who is forced to re-live her 36th birthday on an endless loop of dying and coming back to life, waking up every morning to Harry Nilsson’s song “Gotta Get Up.”

Russian Doll premiered on February 1, 2019, the day before Groundhog Day, and has maintained a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series opening season employed an all-female writing and directing team.

Russian Doll appeared to end its first season with enough closure to make a second unnecessary, but the series was pitched with a three-season arc. There is no word on what will happen in the second season, or who will be in it. Routine is an incredible thing. We become what we repeatedly do. Season 1 featured Charlie Barnett, Rebecca Henderson, Jeremy Bobb and Yul Vazquez.  Russian Doll also stars Greta Lee, and Elizabeth Ashley. Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco of Orange is the New Black, Brendan Sexton III, Dascha Polanco, Rebecca Henderson, Jeremy Lowell Bobb, Ritesh Rajan and Jocelyn Bioh have all guest starred.

The renewal comes as Lyonne is preparing to end her run on Orange Is the New Black, which will release its seventh and final season on July 26.

The Russian Doll release date has not yet been announced.
